MESSAGE FROM THE COORDINATOR
From the PYP Coordinator’s Desk,
I have always believed that some of the most meaningful learning happens when children are given the freedom to explore, ask questions and discover things for themselves. There is something truly special about watching a child become curious about something, try to make sense of it, and experience the joy of finding an answer. These are the moments that make learning come alive.
As educators, we want children to look forward to learning, to feel excited about coming to school and to know that their ideas, questions and thoughts matter. Learning should not be a passive experience where children simply listen and remember. It should be an active journey where they wonder, investigate, experiment, make connections and learn from the world around them.
Inquiry and play have a beautiful role to play in this journey. Through play, children imagine, create, negotiate, solve problems and learn to work with others. Through inquiry, they learn to question, think independently and look at things from different perspectives. A simple observation, a conversation or a question that emerges during play can open up opportunities for meaningful learning that we may never have planned.
Of course, learning is not always easy. Children need opportunities to make mistakes, face challenges and try again. They need to feel safe enough to share their ideas, confident enough to take risks and supported enough to keep going. These everyday experiences help them grow not just academically, but also emotionally and socially, developing resilience, empathy, independence and confidence along the way.
At BMCS, holistic learning is about nurturing the whole child and recognising that every child brings their own interests, strengths and ways of understanding the world. Our role as educators is to create opportunities that allow each child to grow, feel valued and discover their potential.
My hope is that children remember school as a place where they felt happy to learn, where their curiosity was encouraged and where they were given the space to explore and be themselves.
Because learning is not just about what children know, but also about how they come to know it. When learning is filled with curiosity, meaningful experiences and joy, we nurture something truly precious a love for learning that stays with children long after they leave our classrooms.
With warmth and a belief in joyful learning,
Nandini Aswani
